7th grade homework for Friday September 28th, 2012

Remember when using formulas you need to read carefully what you are being asked.
For exercises 11 and 12, you need to find the area of each figure. Remember that the are of a rectangle is length times width, and the area of a square is side-squared.

Ex. 11, 12 p. 83 and Ex. 27p.84

Find the area of each figure:
11) Recangle: Length = 5in; Width = 2.5 in
12) Square: Side = 0.5cm

27)The circumference C of a circle can be found using the formula C=2Πr, where r represents the radius of the circle. What should Olivia do to write a formula to find the radius of a circle?

Remember that homework is meant to be done on a separate piece of paper.
Also, tomorrow we have an open book quiz. Just because it's open book don't forget to study, you DO need to study.

6th grade:

Use the order of operations to fill in the blanks:
4) 4 x 5 + 7 = ____ + 7 = ____
5) 20 - 2 x 8 = ____ + 16 = _____

Find the value of each expression:
14) -12 ÷ 6 - (1 + 4)
15) 48 ÷ (-4 x 3) + 2

7th grade:

Our homework for tomorrow has to do with formulas. Tomorrow we will  have class, since your field trip has been cancelled and moved to Oct. 9th.

Remember that whenever we are working with formulas we need to see what we are being asked to know if we are going to have to isolate the variable or simply substitute and solve.

For exercises 21 and 22 you will need to isolate the variables asked and then substitute to solve.

6th grade Topics for the Monthtly Test tomorrow Thursday Sept 20, 2012

I apologize for the delay on the topics, I didnt have internet until a couple of minutes ago :(

Remember to review vocabulary words such as: dividend, divisor, quotient, sum, difference, absolute value, integers, etc.

Hello all!
Yesterday we explained two different ways to add and subtract fractions. The first method (first example shown here) is working with the LCD (Least Common Denominator), as for the second method, it is working with the GCF at the end to simplify. Remember the cute butterfly?
                                       

The exercises for tomorrow are:

Ex. 1 - 3, 18, 19 p. 68
Find the LCD for each pair of fractions:
1) 1/2, 1/10
2) 1/3, 1/5
3) 1/4 + 1/14

Use a common denominator to find each sum or difference:

Ex. 31, 32 p. 69
Solve each equation for x when a = 1/2, b = 1/3, and c = 1/4. Write each answer in simplest form:

Remember the rules:

* Whenever you are adding integers with the same sign, the sum (answer) will continue having the same sign and you will add the absolute value of your addends. For example:
-2 + (-8) = -10 and 4 + 5 = 9

* Whenever you are adding integers with different signs, the sum will have the sign of your addend with the greatest absolute value, and you will subtract your absolute values. For example:
-6 + 11 = 5 and 9 + (-18) = -9

Quick review of today's class:

What are integers? Integers are the set of positive whole numbers, their opposites, and zero.

Opposite integers: Two numbers that are the same distance from 0 on a number line, but in opposite directions.

Absolute value: is the distance of the number from 0 on a number line. For example: to find the absolute value of -3, count the units from 0 until you reach -3.

Also, to help yourself compare and order integers you may use a number line as a guide.

Below you will find the homework for tomorrow.

43) Scores in a golf tournament are reported by the number of strokes each player is above or below par. The scores for five players are -12, +2, -7, +4, and -3. Order the scores from the lowest under par to the greatest over par.

*Which score is the next-farthest to the left?

44) A friend does not know how to order integers. Explain how to order 12, -4, and -5 from least to greatest.
