6th homework for tomorrow Wednesday September 12th, 2012

6th graders
Your homework for tomorrow will be about adding integers.

Remember the rules:

* Whenever you are adding integers with the same sign, the sum (answer) will continue having the same sign and you will add the absolute value of your addends. For example:
-2 + (-8) = -10 and 4 + 5 = 9

* Whenever you are adding integers with different signs, the sum will have the sign of your addend with the greatest absolute value, and you will subtract your absolute values. For example:
-6 + 11 = 5 and 9 + (-18) = -9

Using the number line:

Exercises for tomorrow:
Solve:
a) -2 + (-3)
b) -16 + 8
c) 9 + (-26)
d)-16 + (-43)
e) -9 + 3

Remember that homework is meant to be done on a separate paper.

Have a great afternoon!
