6th grade project due Friday January 18th, 2013
In order for us to review what we learned during our first semester, we are going to complete a project which will be due the following Friday (January 18th).
The project:
- You will have 30 exercises in total (the first 10 exercises you will find them in this post).
- You must work on white paper.
- Remember to work with PENCIL.
- Do not print the exercises, you must write them down. (We always copy instructions)
- I will be grading how neat, clean, organized your project is, along with your work (process and answers)
- You may use colors to underline ONLY the number of the exercise.
I'm confident you will all do great :)
First 10 exercises:
- At a grocery store, you buy hamburger weighing 1.42 lb, sausage weighing 2.16 lb, and a chicken weighing 3.73 lb. How many pounds of meat do you buy?
- Mr Porter bought 24 bagels at 6 for $2.49 and 12 cartons of juice at 6 for $1.98. What was the total cost of the bagels and juice Mr Porter bought, not including tax?
- Eduardo can type 65 words per minute. How many words can he type in 7.5 minutes?
- You use 0.6 lb of bananas in each smoothie. How many smoothies can you make with 3.12 lb of bananas?
- Nuts cost $1.75 per jar. How many jars can you buy with $14?
- Do you think there is a commutative property of division? Explain why or why not. Give examples.
- You are making a homework planner that is 8.5 in. wide. The first column is 1.25 in. wide and lists the subjects. The next five columns are equally divided and represent the five school days. How many inches wide is the column for Monday?
- Which two numbers have an absolute value of 1?
- Your friend has trouble simplifying 20 - (-38). Write an explanation to help your friend.
- Describe a situation that can be represented by the expression 4(-2)
As your are working remember to do your best. I KNOW you can all do great, and as I said in class, it all depends on you :)
Do not leave it for the night before! There are too many exercises to do in one night!
